What in the world…
It’s January 2026, and the world is on fire, not in small part to the evil actions of a handful of powerful men. Let’s start there.
How do you stay sane and moving forward when the world seems hell-bent on blowing itself up, particularly if you are neurodivergent and you see all the helpful programming that existed a mere two years ago being hacked apart by crazy people?
- Monitor how much news you are consuming. You don’t want to be doomscrolling, but sticking your head in the sand isn’t going to help either. Check your feeds no more than 3-4 times a day. Watch no more than one hour of news broadcasting and reading the news. Make sure you are getting a variety of inputs. While many major outlets are good, check to make sure they are relatively neutral (https://app.adfontesmedia.com/chart/interactive?
utm_source=adfontesmedia&utm_medium=website) - Consciously disengage from the world for at least an hour a day, ideally: in nature, playing with a pet or child, making art, playing music, exercising, meditating, playing or talking with friends.
- Connect with others. Friends, family/family of choice, co-workers, chatting someone up at Starbucks for light banter. Take some time to just be in the presence of others. Smile. Hug one another. Laugh.
- Activate. The above steps will help keep us sane but won’t scratch the itch of ‘I gotta do something about this mess.’
- Peacefully protest (https://indivisible.org/, https://www.nokings.org/, https://www.fiftyfifty.one/).
- Join a Rapid Response team (Google Rapid Response Network).
- Postcard your elected officials and would-be voters (Google Postcard Writing Campaigns).
- Send small donations to people making a difference.
- Make a sign and stand on a street corner and listen to people honk in affirmation. It sounds strange, but is an amazing experience just to stand up and say your piece.
You are not alone. WE are not alone. We change the world by banding together. Now is the time.
